As school winds down, most of us are deciding which week we’ll go to the beach or perhaps we’d love to cool off up in the mountains…. We planning, planning, planning our family fun but….
what if … instead you were planning how to stretch out a few groceries to last all summer or wondering if by some miracle your child might have a few days of fun or you are stressed about summer tutoring costs to prepare your child for next year….
Many, many families that get help with meals during school are left on their own. Suddenly, one dinner needs to be 3 meals…impossible. We had a school counselor call us because a grandma who’s raising her grandson wanted his teacher to remind him to eat a big lunch at school since they had no food for dinner. When asked about the summer, she was in tears not knowing how to get enough food. Other families have mentioned hopes for a few days of a local camp or how to get tutoring help so their children will stay on target for next school year.
There are many families who receive breakfast and lunch at school but….no school + no food.
Over the summer, Kids First delivers food to families every Wednesday in both Mecklenburg and Union county. We have also embraced some families from the Lumbee community and various families in Belmont and north of Charlotte.
Time for more math….11 Wednesdays this summer - 137 hungry families at least …
137 X 11 = 1507 grocery shops. We’ll aim low and say each shop is $35. Wow! Sharon and I just gasped…that’s $52,745…..seems absolutely impossible.
Prove us wrong…donate.
Suddenly, beach trips and mountain vacations make us all realize how lucky we are.
Kids First is hoping you will help us to help families.
Show some Summer Lovin’! Together we hope to raise over $50,000 which is less than $40 per family. Kids First will feed as many children as we can with our donations.
